Bayview Buckets

BAYVIEW BUCKETS
Adopt-A-Tree Project

WHERE:
West side of Bayview Ave. between Hillsdale Ave. E. and Davisville Ave.

PROJECT LEADER:
Helen Godfrey, LEAF Volunteer and Tree Tender Graduate

ADDITIONAL PARTNERS:
City of Toronto Forestry and Ward 22 Councillor Josh Matlow

LEAF is working with community leaders to encourage businesses to "adopt" the trees on their street by watering them on a regular basis.

Commercial street trees face high levels of stress which can negatively affect their health and reduce their lifespan. Urban stresses reduce the environmental benefits a tree can provide and increase municipal costs for tree replacement.

Through the simple act of proper watering, we can improve street tree health and survival rates. As part of this project, educational signage has been safely attached to the trees. At a glance, these signs offer interesting tips on the urban forest to passers-by, and include QR codes which take smart phone users directly to the LEAF website to learn even more!

This project was inspired by two other initiatives: Friends of Trinity Bellwoods Park Adopt-a-Tree Program and Roncesvalles Renewed

"Bayview Buckets"
This summer's brutal heat isn't just taking a toll on you and me; it's also making it harder for our street trees to survive. Today, Bayview Buckets Adopt-a-Tree was launched to get businesses to water a tree every week. We spoke to Amanda Gomm of LEAF about it.
